I was pleasantly surprised! Our server, Linda, was delightful; very attentive and super nice! The French onion soup was some of the best we have ever had. delicious tapenade and bread were served before dinner and it was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! The only thing I would have changed was adding more flavor to the BBQ sauce on the ribs, otherwise fantastic!

Our first time at The Port Hotel. We loved it! The staff from check in to the restaurant was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean, and very nicely decorated. We had a room with the Kohler Water Haven shower which was very cool. We ate dinner at the restaurant. The food was excellent.
I can't speak for the restaurant, but we had a very nice stay at the hotel. Sue was very friendly and our room was very clean, cozy and comfortable. The sheets were fantastically soft. I felt so comfortable in the room I walked around barefoot (something I never do at hotels). Nice place.

This is a review for the hotel: My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding. We usually stay at the nearby corporate named hotel but it was all booked up. This turned out to be a good thing as we absolutely loved our stay at the Port Hotel so much more! We stayed in room 307 and it was fabulous. Very clean, satellite TV, down comforter, plush white robes, remodeled bathroom, and the best part: free breakfast in bed in the mornings! (The apple stuffed French toast was delish). When staying here, keep in mind that this is an old fashioned style hotel: there isn't a 24hour desk. But this was never a problem for us, if we ever did have an issue the restaurant stays open later and the host/bartender can assist. This place was lovely and I highly recommend it.

Amazing hotel!! Hotel and more! Excellent staff! Dining was superb with awesome food and service. The Communication and delivery of their incredible service they provided is just unparalleled. Can't wait to come back in warmer weather. I'd highly recommend this place for any age couple's getaway. We didn't have to do a thing. Everything was taken are of by the professional staff and organization of the hotel. So great.

Went to brunch on Mother's Day with my family today. We read about the weekly brunch on the restaurant's website, which was advertised at $12.99/person. There was no mention of Mother's Day, or a special arrangement for the holiday. So, we made reservations, and went to brunch. When we got the bill, it was $25/person. We were floored. No where on their website did they specify that the brunch price on this particular Sunday was going to be nearly double the normal price. We felt very deceived and disappointed. Not only did we feel completely deceived about the price of the brunch, but our service was poor. We were filling our own waters with the pitcher at the busers station because there was no one around, and it wasn't until we were nearly done eating that our coffees were finally refilled. We even got up and stacked our own plates on the buser tray because our spent plates were just sitting on the table (it was a buffet) and not being removed. Had the brunch been spectacular, I would maybe feel a little better about the $200+ bill for our table, but it was mediocre at best. We won't be going back anytime soon.

We stayed at the Port Hotel a few weeks ago would happily return again. A small establishment, very casually run, but so nice. The owner/manager checked us in and shared with us a little history of the town and the inn - so cool to get that kind of personalized service. He even recommended his favorite suite in the room, which we stayed in, and gave us a full run down/intro on all the room's amenities (big spa shower, gas fireplace, cable/TV) himself. Luxurious, wonderful bed, romantic old building, would highly recommend this for a couple's weekend. Our late night dinner in the restaurant was nothing to write home about, but the hot breakfast delivered to our room was amazing! French toast, fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs, and a big pot of fresh coffee - yummy! We will make this a stop on our next trip to Wisconsin!

We came up to Port Washington from Chicago to go to Duluth Trading Co. After shopping and looking at the lake, we walked around looking for a restaurant with a patio. Decided on the Port Hotel restaurant. What a lovely place! To start, I had a cosmopolitan and husband had a bloody mary.. cosmo wasn't that great.. tasted like the bottled stuff and was very tiny.. so of course they didn't mix up that little cosmo! Ah well.. switched to wine with dinner. For dinner I had the pork tenderloin medallions and husband had the beef rouladen.. both were delicious!!! I especially appreciated the vegetable medley.. actually cooked in some butter or olive oil and seasoned!!! I could have licked that vermouth and mustard cream sauce off the plate!! The beef rouladen was so tender, it fell apart! I had the spinach salad with my meal, very good but too much dressing. Complimentary bread with butter and an olive tapenade! Our server was very sweet.. Really lovely dinner and the bill was only $61.00!!! Coming from Chicago, that is amazing!!!

Stayed at The Port Hotel and headed downstairs for dinner. A bottle of wine was included with our stay, but apparently the bottle was not one they were proud of. It wasn't listed on the wine menu and the waitress didn't even bother to present it. She dumped it in the glass and screwed the cap back on. We ordered the steak aupoive, cooked medium rare, with the spinach salad and baked potato. The rye bread was delivered, without butter and it appeared to be a loaf of sliced bread straight off the shelves of a grocery store. The potato was barely warm, a little crusty, and probably had been cooked the night before. The spinach salad was swimming in dressing. The steak arrived medium well to well. We were here for our anniversary and wanted to eat together, and just asked for it to be taken off our bill. Management said no. So then a new steak was delivered, cooked rare. Back it went again, and the third time it arrived medium rare. My wife had longed finished her meal by this point, and the staff offered us a free dessert. To put things in perspective, I've lived 43 years without ever sending a meal back-- and unfortunately, the restaurant was the cause of a disastrous dining event.

I wanted to love this place but I just liked it. I liked the old fashioned decor even as dated as it was. We had a living social deal which included 15.00 off of dinner and the breakfast buffet. I missed the fact that they don't have the pate plate complimentary. That was a nice touch and perhaps justified the pricier cost of most of the menu. I disliked the spinach salad with the warm bacon dressing, If they had simply tossed the spinach with a tablespoon of dressing instead of a ladle on top and added a few more onions it would have been tolerable. Candy sweet. To be safe we ordered the simplest menu item of prime rib. It was very good and cooked exactly as we ordered it but the waitress didn't understand medium on the rarer side I had to pick medium or rare.... she needed to be reminded several times about things, drinks, sour cream, horseradish sauce...but she didn't deter us from our meal. We talked with people who said the saltimboca was delicious. The Sunday buffet was a pleasant surprise. The entrees of the day were Irish Stew and fried fish. Both were very good. They had a nice variety and everything tasted pretty good. No champagne - disapointed again but everyone seems to be cutting costs. I didn't think 13.00 was totally unreasonable for it and ours was complimentary. Bottom line - the cost cutting measures have somewhat lowered the justification of the prices on the menu. There are a few decent places nearby and Milwaukee is only 25 miles away. I would eat dinner here again but only out of convenience or if I had a coupon.

First let me say I was on a business trip and WOW what a cool town. When I asked the front desk clerk where is the best restaurant in town she immediately told me the Port Hotel which was a short walk. I have to say the first night I went there was a Wednesday night I walked in the place and not a sole in sight so I left to try another option, and I decided to go back Thursday night. Boy I should have stayed Wednesday night because the meal and the patrons at the bar were amazing Thursday night. If you want some of the best prime rib you'll ever eat go to Port Hotel. It was cooked to perfection, seasoned unbelievably usually I need to salt my meal not this one. The potato was a little small but that was ok because of the beautiful Prime Rib The people from this town were amazing they were so friendly and helpful. Thank actually say hello to you when you walk buy. If you are ever in Port Washington Wisconsin the Port Hotel is a must.
We were glad to get a seat the night before fish day because everywhere in town was so crowded. The service was decent especially since the restaurant was so swamped. The salad was horrible, the vinaigrette dressing was all oil. Be warned don't expect a good salad and definitely don't order one as your main dish. Other than this the food was good if not exceptional.

Very romantic! We always come here for the Alaskan King Crab Legs, which are always served pre-split (what service). We love the included side salad -- hot bacon dressing, caesar, but our favorite dressing... parmesan! They always serve great cold liver pate and veggies with good crackers - even rye crisps. The appetizer Prime Bites is to die for, it's just crisp, salty and once you get to the prime rib meat inside... tender and juicy. WOW. The Port Hotel (Restaurant) is one of our special places we go with either our family or just the two of us for a special night out. Linen table clothes, great service - very friendly (but not pretentious), cozy lighting, love it. We've also had their Prime Rib (huge) and Oscar Steak (and a Sunday Brunch) - all the meals were delicious, but honestly we can't pass up the King Crab Legs. Port Washington is also a very romantic town, you've got to check out lake michigan from the top of the park -- the view is gorgeous if you ignore the water treatment plant. This restaurant seems to give off old school class -- it's classy and cozy!

My wife and I were looking for a nice place to eat dinner in Port Washington and The Port Hotel was recommended to us. The place is easy to find has a small parking lot located in the back. The parking lot was nearly full and the restaurant was nearly empty so you may need to search for other parking options during busier times. I'd say this restaurant is more for adults rather than the entire family. I ordered the Steak au Poive and was blown away. It was cooked perfectly to order and the flavors were amazing. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and I've had a LOT! I also ordered a small salad and the garlic mashed potatoes which were both average, at best. The garlic mashed potatoes, while having a good flavor, were VERY dry and seemed like they had been sitting around for a while. Based on other reviews, I think this was an exception, rather than the norm. Overall, it was a pleasurable experience and I would recommend this restaurant.

I have never been compelled to write a negative review before - however our experience was atrocious there. First off - the service was pitiful. We waited 1 hour for our salads to arrive. Then another hour for our entrees. The couple at the table beside us said they had been seated at 6 (mind you it was now 9 pm) and they were still waiting for their checks. I don't think it was the server's fault so we didn't really blame her. When the food finally did arrive my "18 oz" steak au poivre was nothing like what a steak au poivre should be. It was woefully undersized...I was a meat science major in college so don't try to pull the wool over my eyes on that one. It also was fatty and rather greasy. The other meal we got was the swordfish which was just as bad. The swordfish was burnt and had cold blue cheese on top. We couldn't wait to get out of there...3 hours later...We did however try to find someone "in charge" to bring our concerns to. We were finally directed to the bartender who didn't seem to care whether or not we (and other patrons) were happy. Overall the worst dining experience of our lives. The only average thing was the prime rib bites we had for an app.

My Family and I are Port natives. We used to go to the Port Hotel for all celebrations. Recently we went their for our usual Prime Rib and It tasted wonderful with the sauted onions and all. But as soon as I got home I got sick. I was bartending the next night and asked a couple people about it and heard the same. They had gotten served bad meat serval times. Now sadly I am out a place to get good prime rib. :(

Growing up, the Port Hotel was the peak of fanciness to my family, however my last visit (the first in probably nearly a decade) was disappointing. My prime rib was just fine, however the hash browns that accompanied it were overly peppered. At first, I was happy to see some seasoning, but after two bites I found them greasy and overwhelmingly peppery. Also, the Caesar salad could hardly be called such: mixed greens, a light sprinkling of parmesan, but topped with Italian dressing, and croutons coated in dill. Not good. And our service was quite poor. It was a slow night (we were our server's only table with only two other tables in the whole dining room), yet it took nearly 20 minutes to get refills on simple things like soda and nearly a half hour to get our check. Speaking as a former server myself, the pace of the meal was incredibly disjointed. I used to think highly of the Port Hotel, however I don't feel the same. I doubt I will return.

My husband and I are longtime Port Washington residents. Perhaps that was to our detriment tonight. We remembered the "old school" Port Hotel, the place where a relish tray/lazy susan arrived gratis prior to one's meal. That never happened tonight. I ordered the New York Strip, medium rare. It is one of the menus pricier offerings ($25.95), as was my husband's large Prime Rib. My house salad was lettuce (some rust spots) with a mere cucumber slice and cherry tomato. Very boring! My steak was overcooked and the server HAD to have known that. On that note, her service was not up to par. She brought out our entrees along with another tables! Our entrees sat there (french fries included) while she served the other table. The woman at the other table felt her meat was not properly cooked (she was not wrong for saying something) and I was fuming that my french fries were growing cold. After we were served, I kept cutting into my steak, hoping to discover the "medium rare" part--thinking the center might be less done than the tip. Never happened. My french fries were crisp and perfectly fried, but so are the ones at Culvers. My husband's baked potato was tiny. Aldi sells large sized potatoes! I couldn't believe a potato this size would suffice at what used to be a somewhat fine dining option restaurant. Our dinner for two was $83.00 and I could have cried! There was no pleasant atmosphere, my husband's drinks took forever to make their way to the table, and our server absconded with the bread basket even when we told her not to! I had expected so much more. I'm glad other reviewers see this as a special place, we do not. I used to actually recommend this establishment to tourists I would encounter downtown. I would never do that again in light of tonight's experience.

The minute you open the door, it feels like you walked into the past. The hotel's ambiance and decor reminded me of the movie "Four Seasons." The waitressing staff was helpful and knowledgable. The food was simple and good. We ordered steak and sautéed walleye pike dinners. The fish was sautéed in butter with a dash of salt and pepper. I personally love simple flavors, so I loved the dish. In my opinion, it is easy to overwhelm/spoil pike's sweetness using strong spices. That was not the case with their sautéed walleye pike dish. It was served with steamed vegetables that went very well with the flavors of the fish. All in all, it was a neat dining experience for me. We spent over an hour in the restaurant, and saw many different people coming and going. There were two couples sitting next to our table who actually sailed to Port Washington on their yacht, which was another "Four Seasons" moment for me. Very cool!

Ambiance - Dark wood with mauve floral decor. "Instead of feeling vintage it feels outdated, very old school supper club. There are several dining areas and a bar area. The chairs look like they were brought in around the 1970's. The tables had linens, white tablecloths and mauve made another appearance in the form of napkins. A basket of assorted crackers, breadsticks, etc. are brought to the table. Beverages: They have a full bar and it's straight forward. You come here to drink old fashions, gimlets and rob roys. Their wine list is your average hotel wine list, grocery store brands like Vendage and Kendall Jackson. Food: It's a pretty big menu carrying an array of traditional American Supper Club options. Heavy on the meat and potatoes. I opted for the New York Strip Steak. One of the daily specials came with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and I asked if I could get those as my side choice instead. The kitchen was extremely accommodating with this request. I also asked for my steak to be done rare. My steak was not only huge but it was perfectly rare, almost raw, just the way I like it. Kudos to any kitchen that knows how to send out a rare steak. The steak had a huge glob of compound garlic butter that melted down the sides into a rich sauce. The Garlic Mashed Potatoes were delicious. Staff: The waitress was an older woman, clearly and old pro at waitressing. Efficient, nice, accommodating and knowledgeable, I could not ask for anything more in a waitress. Bathroom: Again pretty outdated, harsh lighting, metal stalls with minimal privacy. The soap dispenser was broken and there was a small pump bottle of soft soap to use. Overall, I think if you are of the Baby Boomer generation this place will appeal to you. It's safe all American food and décor with no surprises or newfangled hooey.

UPDATE: The champagne with Sunday brunch is no longer complimentary. While this may be a fairly trivial matter to some people, I found it quite disappointing.
